TIMMONS, Mary E., 2 Apr 1848 - 5 Mar 1930. (Wife J. K. P. Timmons; daughter of
Jesse & Martha J. Amis Evans.)
JAMES Knox Polk Timmons was born at Ashwood on 5 Apr 1841, the son of S. H.
& Melinda Sellers Timmons. During the Civil War he fought in Co. A, 9th
Tenn. Cav. Bn. & in Co.E, 8th Tenn Infantry. After the war, he returned to
Maury Co., married Miss Mary B. Evans on 13 Jul 1865 and opened a mercantile
establishment near Godwin. He was postmaster of the local office after 1878 and
the agency received the name 'Timmons' after J.K.P. He was the father of five
children.
