Notes:
Mr. Jake Shires, 75, was found dead in bed this morning at Pottsville, possible
stroke victim; noted fisherman; buried in family burial grounds. (Columbia
Herald, 2 Apr 1915.)(There is no stone in this, or any other cemetery that is
known to anyone for this Jake or Jacob that matches up to this date. It is probable that his parents are
buried here. One of his sons, Clete C. Shires, has a stone in this place. [F.

CHUNN, Sylvester, 1758 - 1840, Revolutionary War Soldier. As follows: Shires (Jacob) Cemetery - Sylvester Chunn, Soldier of Revolution, is said to have been buried here instead of in Shires Memorial Cemetery where he has a military marker. 1840 Census for Marshall Co. Tenn. shows: Sylvester Chunn, Pensioner for Military Service, age 86 years. Mr. Walter Chunn of Marshall Co., Tn. states that his mother, Hattie Gares Chunn, knew from personal knowledge that Sylvester Chunn who served in American Revolution is buried in the Jacob Shires Cemetery instead of where the marker is located, as is Sylvester's wife, but someone installed a new military marker in the Shires Memorial Cemetery up the road.
