Extracted from a letter dated 7 May 1879, from William Moore of Santa Fe, nephew of John M. Witherspoon, with regard to the death and burial of John's second spouse, Mary Tabitha Hanks Witherspoon:

"I will now comply with my promise. I have just returned from Aunt Tal�s burial. She was buried today (Wednesday) at 4 o�clock at the old family burying ground on Knob Creek. She lies beside Uncle John�s first wife...."
