NOTES (from Ann Dobson research): �Arthur H. Cranford was a slave owner. He enlisted as a private on September 20, 1812 in Captain John Looney�s Company, 2nd Regiment West Tennessee Militia. In the 1860 Census Arthur and Frances Cranford are listed with a William A. Carrigan, their grand-son by daughter Sarah, age 19 and again in the 1870 Census with William Carrigan, age 28, farmer born in Tennessee. Arthur first shows as a head of household in 1820 Maury County, Tennessee Census. He is listed as having a wife, one daughter, and two sons.�

�Mr. Arthur Cranford who was married on the 17th was a soldier in the War of 1812. He invited to his wedding Major John D. Fleming, aged about 82, and Thomas J. Whitaker, of uncertain age.....Sixty years ago Major Fleming then a young man, went from here to South Carolina coast, through a wilderness, and broke the ice in Chickamauga and swam it on the way...just to see his sweetheart...(Ch,3 Oct 1873)

�Arthur H. Cranford of the headwaters of Bear Creek died Saturday nite at the age of 88 years. War of 1812 soldier, never had a doctor in the family until 1st week...married second wife two years ago.�
�Arthur died March 3, 1877 and is said to
never have had a doctor in his family until the previous week before his death.
He is interred in the Cranford family Cemetery off Bear Creek Pike beside his
first wife Frances.

Road to old Cranford {now Sandy Akin} place. Cemetery is high up on slope of
Dean Hill in a thicket marked by medium size cedar trees. This cemetery is hard
to reach and is practically hidden by brush and vines. It has not been used in
many years. {listed April 1, 1986, by Fred Hawkins in the book Maury County
Tennessee Cemeteries})
