STURGILL Peggy Butler, 64, of Lexington, died Wed, Dec. 20, 2006 at her
residence. She was an attorney for 14 years practicing in the area of criminal
defense. She was born Mar. 15, 1942 in Jacksonville, FL, the daughter of
Margaret Scott Butler and the late Warren Eugene Butler.
Her family lived in Atlanta, GA for a few years before settling in Miami, FL.
She was chosen Miss Coral Gables and Runner-Up Miss Miami Beach during her
senior year of high school. She then attended Vanderbilt University for three
years beginning in 1960 and received her undergraduate degree from the
University of Kentucky in 1965. She later earned her law degree from the Univ.
KY College of Law in 1992. While in college, she was active in the Kappa Alpha
Theta Sorority and was responsible for bringing Lionel Hampton to Lexington for
a special benefit. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was also a
member of the Lexington Junior League, the Thoroughbred Club of America, the
Keeneland Club, and the Idle Hour Country Club. In addition, she was active, for
a time, in the thoroughbred horse business. Besides her mother, survivors
include two sons: T. Cornelius "Neil" Sturgill Jr., Chadwick C.
"Chad" (Missy) Sturgill, all of Lexington; a brother, William W.
Butler, Roswell, GA; two granddaughters, Katherine A. Sturgill, Hannah C.
Sturgill; and three uncles, James C. Scott, Shelbyville, TN, Donald M. Scott,
Columbia, TN, and J. Price Butler, Orlando, FL. Funeral services will be 11 am
Sat at Calvary Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Robert Baker. Burial will be 2 pm
CST Tue, Dec. 26, 2006 in Wilkes Cemetery, Culleoka, TN. Pallbearers are Jerome
Baker, Al Borne, Martin Charters, Olin Gentry, Thomas Gilbert, and Richard
Hoffman. Friends may call from 4-7 pm Fri at the W. R. Milward Mortuary
