I (Rick Gray) have found a listing for a Pvt. Richard Sparkes Wilkes in Co. E. 3rd Tenn Infantry. He is listed (Pvt Richard Sparkes Wilkes Co. E 3rd Tenn Inf Sept 1863) as dying in Sept 1863 in Aberdeen, Mississippi. He is listed as one of the Confederate dead laid to rest in Old Aberdeen Cemetery. Infantry, Widow's Pension #W4177 by Evlira O. Wilkes; Ref. Tn. State Library & Archives.) Richard has two memorials. See the first listed stone above for further information about this soldier. The soldier's memorial has a death date of 1863 and 1865 is inscribed on the family memorial.
