State Court Judge in Tennessee, 1862, member of Tennessee State Senate, 1869,
U.S. Senator from Tennessee, 1871 - 77. Killed by bandits in Tierra Blanca,
Guadelupe y Calvo, Chihuahua. Interment somewhere in Mexico, cenotaph at City
Cemetery, Shelbyville, Tn.
