THOMPSON, Dr. J. T. S., (James Turner Sandford) 6 Feb 1836 - 19 May 1890. (Son of Captain Absalom & Mary B. Sandford Thompson), Confederate Medical Officer, Co E. 3rd Tenn. Inf. Served on the staff of Confederate Generals J. E. Johnson & John Bell Hood. Hood's headquarters (on the night of 1864 when the Northern Army slipped past)
was located just a mile to the northwest of this cemetery at the antebellum home known today as the "Oak Lawn". This home was once the home of Absalom and Mary Sandford Thompsom and later their son James Turner Sandford Thompson whose memorial is shown above. Photo & info by Wayne Austin 10-11-03.
