"Sacred to the memory of James H. Abbott, born in Andover Mass., Sept 11th
1812. Died at Jackson Coll. Oct 28th 1835. aged 23. A pious friend a brother
dear. Admired & loved is buried here. We ........".
Two death notices recorded in Tennessee papers dated 13 Nov 1835 give us the
information that he was a chemistry professor at Jackson College:
Departed this life on
the 28th October, Mr. James H. Abbot, instructor in Chemistry and the
preparatory department in Jackson College, Maury county, Tennessee. Resolutions
approbatory of his virtue and moral worth, and expressive of their deep regret
for his untimely death, were passed by the students of that institution on the
29th ult.
JAMES H. ABBOTT,
instructor in chemistry in Jackson College died Oct. 28, 1835. He died on 28 Oct
1835.
He was laid to rest
in the neighboring cemetery.
