Buddy Irwin was visiting his brother-in-law, William Henry "Buck" Rowland, at the Maury County Jail on 26 June 1977 when fire broke out. The fire claimed his life and many others including his mother-in-law, Mary Alice (Bishop) Anderson; his sister-in-law, Margaret (Anderson) Kinzer Rowland; his brother-in-law, William Henry "Buck" Rowland, Jr.; his brother-in-law, Marvin Anderson; and his brother-in-law, Bily Anderson.
