Mr. Elmer
"Uncle Buck" Howell, 80, a resident of Dry Creek Road near Mt. Pleasant, died
Friday, November 1, 2002 at Maury Regional Hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. Howell will be conducted Sunday, November 3, 2002 at
2:00 p.m. at the Williams Mt. Pleasant Funeral Home with Reverend William Owens,
Reverend J.C. Christian, and Reverend Mike Roberts officiating. Burial will be
in the Arlington Cemetery with military honors being provided by the Mt.
Pleasant American Legion Post # 10. The family will visit with friends Saturday
from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The Giles County native was the son of the late Eleck and Martha Norman Howell.
He was the husband of the late Hauty Lee ?Peggy? Graham Howell who died in 1985.
He was retired from the maintenance department of Stauffer Chemical Company. He
was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Free Will Baptist Church and served in the U.S.
Army during World War II.
He is survived by four daughters, Dolly Tom Jernigan of Mt. Pleasant, Barbara
Clark of Pulaski, Betty Jerry Hendrix of Columbia, and Norma Alexandra Sam Akins
of Hampshire; three sons, Elmer ?Jim? Paulette Howell of Etheridge, Donald Ray
Jane Howell and Danny Wayne Cindy Howell both of Mt. Pleasant; a brother, Elam
?Slim? Howell of Mt. Pleasant; twenty-four grandchildren and forty great
grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a
daughter, Lillie ?Tooter? Akins; three sisters, Minnie Hyatt Kimball, Rosa
Hedgepeth, and Emma Manning; a brother, Clarence ?Short? Howell.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons; Douglas Akins, Donnie Joe Akins, Larry Akins,
Paul Howell, Todd Howell, Tim Howell, Ted Howell, Rodney Dunn, Michael Clark,
Adam Keith Akins, and Charlie Ray Howell.
Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of the Mt. Pleasant Free Will Baptist
Church and retirees of Stauffer Chemical Company.
