MT. PLEASANT
Virgil E. Douglas, 65, a resident of Azalea Drive in Mt. Pleasant died Thursday at his home following an extended illness. Services will be 2 p.m., Saturday in the chapel of Williams Mt. Pleasant Funeral Home with Vernon Brooks and Olan Bassham officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Beech Hill Church of Christ, North Main Street Church of Christ or Eastside Church of Christ in Lawrenceburg. He was a native of Giles County, the son of the late Hugh J. Sr., and Grace Daniels Douglas. He was the husband of Carolyn Murphy Douglas of Mt. Pleasant. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a retired supervisor with Stauffer Chemical Furnace Plant and was employed in sales with Barr Motor Co. after his retirement. He was a member of Beech Hill Church of Christ. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Danny Douglas of Lawrenceburg and Jerry Douglas of Mt. Pleasant; one sister, Mrs. Olan (Frances) Bassham of Columbia; one brother, James R. Douglas of Columbia; and two grandchildren, Jed Douglas and Penny Douglas, both of Columbia. Pallbearers will be Hendley Edwards, David Edwards, Lawrence Douglas, Terry Bassham, Hugh John Graham, John David Edwards, William Holden, Johnny Edwards, Richie Graham and Brian Graham. Honorary pallbearers will be George Kittrell, Ted Davis, Bumpas England, Carl Robinette, Freeman Wright, Jeff Kennedy, Dr. J. O. Williams Jr., Luke Hinson, Fred Thompson, Paul Carpenter, Ed Collier, Carl Swafford, Willoughby Nelson, Harold Daniels, Bob Murray and Employees of the City of Mt. Pleasant, Gene Barr and employees of Barr Motor Co., men of the Beech Hill, Lawrenceburg East Side and North Main Street Church of Christ and all Stauffer Furnace Plant employees.
