Vandygriff, Marie Kennedy Crews, 11 Mar 1926 - 24 Aug 2002 (married 1st to James Vestal 
Crews and 2nd to Roy Alton Vandygriff; daughter of Lloyd B. Kennedy and Bessie Phillips) Section D.
Most people only knew her as Marie Vandygriff. She and her 2nd husband were married 
almost as long as she and her first husband, but she and James both chose to be buried beside their 
first spouses.
Mrs. Marie Kennedy Crews Vandygriff, 76, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at her residence on 
Greenlick Drive in Columbia. Services for Mrs. Vandygriff were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at 
the Williams Mt. Pleasant Funeral Home with Rick Points officiating. Burial was in the Arlington 
Cemetery. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Bessie Phillips Kennedy. 
She was first married to James Crews who died in 1973 and was the widow of Roy Vandygriff who 
died in 1993. She was a retired sewing machine operator for Mt. Pleasant Manufacturing and member
 of the Sandy Hook Church of Christ. She is survived by a daughter, Katie (Chuck) Thornton of 
Columbia; a stepdaughter, Peggy (Jeff) Odom of Mt. Pleasant; a stepson, Berry (Mary) Vandygriff 
of Garden City, Mich.; three stepgranddaughters and one step great granddaughter; a special niece, 
Glenda (Milton) Hay; a special great niece, Cassie Hay; and several nieces and nephews. She was 
preceded in death by a sister, Dixie Cocke; and three brothers, L.B. "Moogan" Kennedy, Jack 
Kennedy and Jeff "Mutt" Kennedy. Pallbearers will be Austin Huddleston, Milton Hay, Donnie 
Huddleston, Ronnie Sheeter, Bob Markham, Bobby Powell, Wayne Slaughter, Keith Milton and 
Neil Griggs. Honorary pallbearers were her nephews, doctors and staff of Columbia Oncology, 
doctors and staff of the Maury Regional Hospital Cancer Center, Dr. Robert Bain, men of Sandy 
Hook Church of Christ, Carl May and Felix Blevins. (The Daily Herald, August 26, 2002)
