ARMSTRONG, Maury Franklin, Jr., 2 Aug 1967 - 25 Feb 2010. (Maury Co. native; descendant of pioneer Maury Co. & Zion Community settlers; 1987 grad of Mt. Pleasant High School; Veteran U.S. Army joining in 1988, deployed in Operation Desert Storm, Staff Sgt in Support of Iraq Freedom May - Nov 2009, receiving U.S. Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Expert marksmanship Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, two Bronze Service Stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Army Reserve Component Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M Devise; s/o Virginia Couch "Ginger" and A. C. Harlan; preceded in death by his father, Maury Franklin Armstrong Sr., maternal grandparents, Louise Wallace and James Cummins Couch, Sr.; mar. to Shawn Michelle Armstrong 38, who was arrested and charged with second degree murder after allegedly shooting her husband in a wooded area south of Mt. Pleasant. Tenn. Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Kristin Helm issued a press release stating Shawn Armstrong was target shooting off of Granny Road when Maury Armstrong was shot multiple times.
