VAUGHAN,
Newton Jasper, 27 Nov 1836 - 17 Dec 1891. Scout under Gen Coleman, Confederate
States Army.
Newton Jasper Vaughan was the son of Littleton and Martha Garrett Vaughan. He
was born on 27 Nov 1836. He joined Company G, of the 9th Tennessee Calvary when
the Civil War erupted, but was latter assigned to a Scout Company under General
Coleman. He first married Fannie E. Warren and, after her death during 1861
along with their children Newton married 13 May
1869 Mary Belle Johnston. To them were born four children. Newton J. died on 17
Dec 1891 and was buried here on his Duck River farm. His second wife Mary Belle
was buried in Rose Hill Cemetery.
