MALONE, Dr. William Thomas, b. 8 Jul 1938 - d. 15 Apr 2009 in Nashville, Tn. (Melrose Park, Illinois native; son of William D. Malone and Catherine Ripplinger Malone; 1956 grad of Cookeville Central High School; earned his DDS at University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in Memphis; Veteran U.S. Navy, dentist; mar. to Sue Haste Malone on 17 Jun 1961.)

Funeral services conducted at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church with Father Davis Chackaleckel and Father Patrick Connor officiating.

Burial in St. John's Churchyard with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19.

Born in Melrose Park, Illinois, he was the son of the late William D. Malone and Catherine Ripplinger Malone and was a 1956 graduate of Cookeville Central High School. He did undergraduate work at Tennessee Technological University and earned his DDS at the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in Memphis. Prior to coming to Columbia in 1964 to open his practice, Dr. Malone served in the U. S. Navy as a dentist. He was a member of the Columbia State Community College Booster Club, a 29-year member of Columbia Elks Lodge #686, and was a 25-year member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. Professional memberships included the Tennessee Dental Association, Life Membership in the American Dental Association and he was a Fellow of the American College of Dentists.
He was a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.
Dr. Malone was an avid promoter and participant in high-school sports for many years. He first registered as an official with the TSSAA in 1964 and was a football official for 44 years. He was assigned as an official for several football bowl and play-off games and officiated at the state football play-off finals in 1975. He officiated at the 1998 Clinic Bowl and the Tennessee-Kentucky High School All-Star Game at Neyland Stadium in 1994. Selected "Tennessee Prep Official of the Year in 1995," he was a member of the Lawrenceburg Quarterback Club and formerly served as Commissioner & Assigning Officer of the Middle Tennessee Football Officials Association.
Dr. Malone has contributed the gift of living to others through organ donation.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Haste Malone, whom he married June 17, 1961; a daughter, Mollie (Rich) Sund of Palatine, Illinois; sons, William T. (Rebecca) Malone, Jr. of Douglas, Massachusetts and Michael E. (Julie) Malone of Springfield; grandchildren, Brian Sund, Rebecca Sund, Emily Sund, Sarah Hartshorn, Samuel Malone, Mary Claire Malone, William T. "Liam" Malone, III, MacKenzie Snow, Dawson Snow, and Darby Snow; and a brother, Dennis (Lucille) Malone of Cookeville.
Active pallbearers are Harvey McCulley, Dave Hall, Danny Ferguson, Billy Marbet, Judge Lee Bailey, Dr. David Williams, Dr. Richard Harb, and Dr. Glenn Jones.
Honorary pallbearers include past and present TSSAA Football Officials and all members of The Shop.
