Mr. Cornelius was born on June 26, 1915
in Nashville to Charles L. Cornelius, Sr. and Elizabeth Currey Cornelius. He is
survived by his wife of 62 years, Llewellyna Granbery Cornelius; three children,
Charles G. Cornelius and his wife Melinda, Llew Cornelius and Susan C. West and
her husband Steve; two sisters, Lillian C. Sharp and her husband Robert, and
Mary Fleming Cornelius Schmitt and her husband Barton; and seven grandchildren,
Lee, Amy, Christian and Currey Cornelius, and Matthew, William and Sally West.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Elizabeth C. Collins (1998) and Jane
Cornelius (1944) and also by his brother, William C. Cornelius (1944). He was a
direct descendant of Col. John Donelson, a founder of Nashville and Robert
Brownlee Currey, Mayor of Nashville from 1822 to 1823. Mr. Cornelius was a
graduate of Duncan Preparatory School, Vanderbilt University and Columbia Law
School. From 1942-1946, he served in the United States Army in the 373rd Field
Artillery Battalion, 100th Division and in the Seventh Army in France and
Germany in World War II. He attained the rank of Major and was awarded a Bronze
Star for his service. Mr. Cornelius was engaged in law practice until his
retirement in 1999 at the Nashville law firm of Cornelius and Collins, which he,
along with Charles L. Cornelius, Sr. and W. Ovid Collins founded in 1942.

in the Lord Jesus Christ, went home to Heaven on August 31, 2011 in perfect
peace at the age of 92. She was born November 12, 1918 in Cincinnati, OH and
lived in Nashville from 1920-2011. She married Charles L. Cornelius, Jr. in
1942, and they were married 62 years before he passed on in 2005. Lou was
predeceased by her brother, William Langley (Red) Granbery. She is survived by
her brother, James T. Granbery, Jr. and his wife Lillian; three children,
Charles G. Cornelius (Melinda), Llew Cornelius and Susan C. West (Steve); seven
grandchildren, Lee Cornelius, Amy Cornelius, Christian Cornelius (Jenny), Currey
Cornelius, Matthew West (Aubrey), William West and Sally West Mikrut (Michael).
Lou attended Ward-Belmont in Nashville and Smith College in Massachusetts. She
was a charter member of St. Bartholomew's Church, where she served faithfully on
the Women's Auxiliary, the Altar Guild (30 yrs.), and as a driver for Meals on
Wheels (10 yrs.). She was also a regular volunteer (21 yrs.) at This 'n That
Thrift Shop, which benefits St. Luke's Community House. She was an involved
member of The Junior League of Nashville, The Children's Theater, The Centennial
Club, The Review Club, The Garden Club, The Colonial Dames of America, the Belle
Meade Club Lawn Bowling Club, The Ladies' Hermitage Association, and The
Nashville Ballet Association. Lou took great delight in her children and
grandchildren, and was a positive influence in their lives. She shared with them
her love of music, art, laughter, learning new things, travel and adventure. She
was deeply loved by her family and friends, and will be greatly missed. A
Memorial service will be held at St. Bartholomew's Church, 4800 Belmont Park
Terrace, Nashville, TN 37215 on Friday, September 23rd at 12 Noon, with
visitation afterward. Interment will follow at St. John's in Ashwood near
Columbia.
