SERVICES HELD FOR RILEY R. RANDEL

 

Services  Riley Rogers Randel former Tennessee state senator were held at 1 pm Tuesday Oakes and Nichols Funeral Home, in Columbia.

The Rev. W. D. Comperry pastor of the First Methodist Church officiated. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Randel died Sunday at a Maury County hospital after a short illness.

He  had served three terms in the Tennessee legislature, from 1935-43, 1955-57, 1957-59.

A native of Thayer. Mo., he was a son of the late Jeff and Carrie Guthrie Randel.

He moved to the Flat Woods Community in Perry County with his family while a child.

He attended school in Huntingdon where he boarded with the mother of former Gov. Gordon Browning.

 

Mr. Rander was a rural mail carrier for 30 years before retiring in 1936 at Honhenwald, and in 1939 he moved to Columbia where he entered the real estate and auction sales business.

He was married to the former Miss Edith Whitfield Smith who survives, in 1941.

Mr. Randel was member of the First Methodist Church and had served as a member of the official board.

He was a 50 year a Mason and member of the Columbia Elks Lodge.

Survivors in addition to his wife include a brother. A. O. Randel, Krebs, Okla. one granddaughter and a great-grandchild
