J. A. Gilbreath Claimed by Death
Prominent Farmer Died at 6 O�clock Sunday Morning At His Home Here
J. A. Gilbreath, aged sixty-nine years, one of the county�s most widely known citizens and respected farmers, died at 6:30 o�clock Sunday morning at his home in South Columbia. Mr. Gilbreath had been in failing health for some time, but not until recently did his condition become critical.
Deceased was born and reared in the Southern section of the county, where by dint of energy and perseverance he accumulated considerable property. He was regarded among the county�s most progressive and enterprising citizens, held in the highest esteem by all who knew him.
Mr. Gilbreath was a consistent member of the Methodist church, and for some years had been a member of the board of stewards of the First Methodist Church of Columbia. He was a splendid Christian and had reared a large family.
He is survived by his wife and the following children: Mrs. W. D. Patterson, Misses Jennie and Verna Gilbreath, E. J. and C. C. Gilbreath, of Columbia; Rev. Earl Gilbreath, of Boston, Mass.; C. T. Gilbreath, of Los Angeles; J. F. Gilbreath, of Louisiana; W. Hl, J. T. and R.R. Gilbreath of Hereford, Texas.
The funeral was conducted at 3 o�clock Monday afternoon at First Methodist church by Dr. Richard L. Ownbey, his pastor. The following served as pall bearers: Active, R. Leo Thomas, R. S. Hopkins, Comer Smith, Jim Adkisson, A. L Haston, C. C. Ross, O. J. Hill and J. H. Dinning. Honorary: B. H. Atkeisson, J. M. Burns, Joe F. Brownlow, C. A. Parker, C. J. Dugger and T. N. Figuers, Sr. Interment in Rose Hill cemetery.
