AKIN, Rev. John, 1756 - (24 July) 1821. (Revolutionary War Soldier.). "A native of South Carolina, First Methodist to preach south of Duck River in Maury Co., Tenn. Organized Pisgah Church in 1808 and preached here. Revolutionary War Soldier. He freed his slaves in his will in 1821. His father was William Akin, a native of Scotland.
