PIGG, John A., no dates. (JOHN A. PIGG; Snow Creek; farmer; single; Maury Light Artillery at organization; Fort Donelson; escaped from prison Camp Douglass; elected captain in 9th Regt. Tenn. Cav.; shot in bowels in fight at Jackson, Tenn. ____186__dying nine days later; remains removed to Pigg graveyard on Snow Creek after the war. [this could be the same as John W. Mrs. Gail Pigg accompanied me to survey this cemetery. You will notice her in some of the photos. She and her husband Charles have been been major supporters of the upkeep of the rich historical heritage of this community which was founded by the Pigg Family in the early 1800s. Such assets as the Pigg School House and old store are part of what they maintain for the astute visitor. This is located across Mingo Branch Road from this cemetery where Charles's ancestors lie. Much has been written about this rural but intelligent culture. You can discover that in the Maury County Historical Society bulletins and other books. You will be also be delighted if you pay a visit to this historical site maintained by the Charles & Gail at the junction of Mingo Branch Road and Snow Creek Road. 

This cemetery has not been maintained well enough to tell if there are other inscribed stones or even field stones marking other graves. One large base was found in the line with the Pigg Family graves, but the stone is missing. Another stone was found flat on the ground in state of decay with the inscription long lost. 

This publication is based on a site visit by Wayne Austin to photograph the Pigg Cemetery on 8 Apr 2009. I was shown this cemetery, the restored Pigg School House and other historical community assets by Gail Pigg, the wife of Charles Pigg, a descendent of this community.
