Obituary for Helen Elizabeth Cook McClain

Mrs. Helen Elizabeth Cook McClain passed away at her home in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee on March 5, 2013.

Helen was born on May 10, 1927 to the late Benjamin Franklin Cook, Sr. and the late Mary Little Ridge Cook in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee. On December 26, 1945 she married Robert Matthew �Bob� McClain and they had four beloved children together. Bob had been born on February 10, 1926 and passed away on February 23, 2003.

Mrs. McClain�s children remember her fondly as a loving mother who sacrificed her life for her family, often doing without to make sure they had everything they needed. She was supportive and loved them unconditionally. She was also very supportive of her husband in his work as a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Mt. Pleasant Lodge #610 and especially as a Shriner. She was also an avid genealogist.

Her character was strong, having a determination to succeed, an understanding spirit and she held no bitterness whatsoever. Mrs. McClain was a great Christian and lived her faith every day. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, her father having helped build the church which is located on Bond Street in Mt. Pleasant.

Helen was a well known restaurateur in the area and was known as being an excellent cook. She owned several restaurants including The Rebel Truck Stop, Blythewood Restaurant, The City Caf�, Grandmother�s Kitchen, James K. Polk Restaurant and the Goose Creek Inn. She also managed several other restaurants in the community: The Holiday Inn Restaurant, Graymere Country Club, Pickwick Restaurant and the Henry Horton Restaurant.

Mrs. McClain is survived by her children: Mary Bob McClain (late James C) Richardson, Elizabeth (James) Bradburn, Edwin Knox (Angela) McClain and Ephraim (Donna) McClain; grandsons: Jason Bradburn, Chris (Michelle) McClain, James Tyson Richardson, Auston Matthew McClain and Robert Stephen McClain; granddaughters: Jamie Elizabeth Bradburn, Tara Amanda Richardson and Allie Elizabeth McClain and 5 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four sisters: Vivian Gibson, Margaret Gordon, Cornelia Scott and Ophelia Sutton Bell; and two brothers: Ben F. Cook, Jr. and James Cook.

Funeral services for Helen Cook McClain will be held on Friday, March 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee with Bro. J. C. Christian officiating. Burial will follow in the McClain Cemetery in the Mt. Joy Community. The family will visit with friends on Thursday, March 7 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Matt Roy, Ricky Duberry, Kevin Hooten, Nathan Kelly, Roger Gilliam and Billy Carroll will serve as pallbearers. Dr. Cummins Couch and Dr. Mike Tyler will serve as honorary pallbearers.
