ADKISSON, (Matilda) Agnes (Matthews), 5 Jul 1845 - 13 Feb 1904.
Mrs. Ab Adkisson funeral Saturday. One of Maury's oldest citizens, wife of
Confederate Veteran, died this morning. Mrs. Agnes Matilda Matthews Adkisson,
96, died this morning at 9 o'clock at home of her daughter Mrs. F. C. Abernathy,
on the Campbellsville Pike. Mrs. Adkisson the widow of the late Ab Adkisson, a
Confederate Veteran who died 22 years ago. She was the dau. of the late James
and Surilda Dooley Matthews, and was born and reared in Maury. She was the
mother of the late James M. Adkissson, well-known Columbian, and she was a
life-long member of he McCain's Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Had been an
invalid for several years. Survivors in addition to her dau. are her
grandchildren, Mrs. Robert Hight of Birmingham, Ala.; J. W. Pender, James B.
Adkisson, Raymond, Matthews, and Miss Grace Abernathy of Columbia; John W.
Abernathy of Glendale, Cal.; and Miss Eleanor Abernathy of Raleigh, N.C.; her
nephews, J. Frank Matthews of Columbia, John Matthews of New York, and Alva
Matthews of Memphis; and a niece, Mrs. A. G. Adkisson of Memphis. Funeral
services and burial at McCains Cemetery.
