Johnson Craig, d. 22 Jan 1881. (Death Notice, Consort of Jesse M. Gordon, 79
yrs. Presbyterian; Columbia Herald, 13 May 1881, d/o Johnson & Martha Blackwood
Craig, who immigrated from Orange co. N. C. in 1808; Her father Johnson Craig
was born in Orange co., N.C. 19 Nov 1774 d. 17 Sep 1848 aged 74 yrs. His wife
Martha Blackwood Craig survived him and died 15 Oct 1856, aged 76 yrs, they mar.
3 may 1798 and emigrated to Tenn in 1808 and settled near Mt. Pleasant, Maury
Co. Tn. on the place now know as the Kittrell old mill place, where a fort was
built for a place of safety. His brother William Craig came with him and settled
where Capt Scott Jenings now resides. At the time they came, there was not even
a tree marked where Mt. Pleasant now stand. Johnson Criag remained in Maury Co.
until 1838 when he started for Mississippi, but his health failing he stopped
near Summertown at the Faust place where Mr. Watkins now resides. Here he
remained until his death. Although her grave in not now marked it is believed
that Eleanor Johnson Craig Gordon is buried at Hunter near her parents. Ref: The
