Further analysis by Beverly H. Jones of Texas: I looked this up in the Giles County census for 1840, 1850, and 1860. 1840 has a John McAslin (also a W.G. McAslin). 1850 has John J. McCaslin, age 45 (also Wm.G. McCaslin). 1860 has John's widow McCaslin and a younger family named McCasland. This must be our guy. [Beverly 11 Jan 2010.]
