Several listings above
are missing monuments that evidently have been found in the past. I am not
surprised because I probably missed them. Many of the tombstones were found by
kicking at a clump of protruding leaves which yielded a covered tombstone which
was cleared away for the photo. That was after clearing away the privy hedge and
saw briars so access could be determined.
A nice rock wall
surrounds this cemetery with a metal gate that has fallen and no longer protects
the cemetery. The privy hedge, saw briars, vines and other unnamed brush have
taken over the whole premises of the cemetery inside the rock wall. As usual I
found myself cutting my way into and over too each tombstone to clear it enough
to make the photos. That means many thorns scratches to the arms. Got a healthy
case of the annoying beggar lice (seeds) weeds that clings to your clothes for a
ride to somewhere else only to be knocked off and fall to the ground and become
next year's weeds.
I don't think anyone has been into this cemetery in many
years. The Cemetery book said it was damaged by cattle. How could that
happen with the rock fence in place. I suspect the damage is from falling tree
limbs and the dampness from excessive foliage present along with wetness which causes the stones to
erode, especially the old soft limestone monuments. It was rainy (misting) that
day, but given the shady place I suspect these stones have not dried off in
ages.
Photographed on a rainy Friday morning of 8 Jan 2016. The inscriptions were updated with exceptions found or known by C. Wayne Austin. This publication culminated from various sources. Listed on page 253-254 of the book Lincoln County County Cemeteries by Tim & Helen Marsh, abt 1978. Added here 14 Jan 2016. Cemetery not listed on Findagrave.com
