If not, Nail may be his surname. (stone buried too deep to read.. All we see is "GEORGE NAIL COLORED". Stone does not appear to be the style to have been set before freeing the slaves- 1961. * Many of the Whitesell monuments left off the first "e" in Whitesell and spelled the name Whitsell. I assumed here this was a tombstone spelling error, but maybe not. There was some consistency among the various wings of the Whitesell families in the spelling without the "e".
I am able to connect most of the surnames in this cemetery one way or another with the Whitesell family of William Wilhoite Whitesell. The exception to that is the Rone family which were located here very early.
