Commentary about this
cemetery by Jean Cosby when she and Ed visited there in the 1990s: They say at
one time it was a rather large cemetery, but people have carried off lots of the
stones and there arent many left. I dont know how it is now because we read
these cemeteries in the late 90s.
By CWA after visit 18
Nov 2016: My estimation is the condition of this cemetery is about the same.
Many stones lye around with no sign of the inscribed part. A large Maple Tree
has died and fallen on the stone for Lucy S. Tillery and is putting about 1,000
pounds of downward pressure but as the log rots it is lessen up in weight. It
has harmed the stone but not the inscription. I tried to lift it away but there
was not enough muscle.
Photographed on a Friday 12 Noon 18 Nov 2016. The inscriptions were updated with exceptions found or known by C. Wayne Austin. This publication culminated from various sources. Listed on page 507 of the book Giles County Cemeteries by the Historical Society, abt 1986. Added here 12 Dec 2016.
