*Some have said this is the stone for Lawrence Epps. I fail to see the inscription matching anything related to his name and dates. They say he died in 1861 and we can see 1861. However, the first date 1861 is a birth date not the given death date for Lawrence Epps. I concede anything is possible with these old broken stones, but all I see is what my camera equipment can capture of this broken inscription. I have left this photo full size so you can draw your own conclusion. However if you disagree let me know. It is likely this is for a child that was born and died between the 1860 and 1870 censuses. Likely his name was Joseph, John or James A. Epps. 3165L
**By studying the censuses (even though there is no marker here) Lawrence & Elizabeth Epps are likely buried here with their children. No doubt they lived in this neighborhood and this graveyard was active when they died.

For more than 50 years, Mr. John Stone owned and lived on the farm where this "Stone Cemetery" is located, and that is how it became the Stone Cemetery. To my knowledge, there are no members of the Stone family buried here. Giving the landowner's name to a cemetery is fairly common--and very confusing. Carolyn Whitaker Crowley 28 Mar 2015. Photographed on a sunny Saturday 25 Oct  2014. The inscriptions were updated with exceptions found or known by C. Wayne Austin. This publication culminated from various sources. Partly listed on page 20 of the book Lincoln County County Cemeteries by Tim & Helen Marsh, abt 1978. Added here 4 Mar 2015. Found on findagrave.com as added by several folks. They have done a good job. I disagree with them in a few instances on the tombstone identify & dates, but the genealogy is great assuming it is accurate along with the identify of the unmarked graves, as shown above with no photo. A group has dug out and restored lost stones in this cemetery such as the Prosser family stones.
