SHORES (ON HILL) CEMETERY, (On Hill above old Phillips-Shores Mill site) GILES COUNTY, TENNESSEE

This large open area of the cemetery likely has the unmarked graves of many of the missing Phillips family who lived in this area and were early pioneers here.
Missing from the grave records are these family members which are all the family members who were the first three generations of founders of this community including land owners farmers Grain Mill Founders and Operators. Missing and presumed buried somewhere in this cemetery and maybe in this open area are:

PHILLIPS, William,  was born Abt. 1777 in North Carolina, and died Aft. 1860 in Giles Co Tn. (Father of James Alfred Phillips)
PHILLIPS, Charlotte (maiden name unknown), She was born Abt. 1782 - died Aft. 1860 in Giles Co Tn. (Census taker of 1860 found them in the Bodenham Community) It is possible that William & Charlotte are interred in an old lost graveyard or just lost graves in other places northwest of here.
PHILLIPS, James Alfred, "Alfred", 19 Mar 1808 - 18 Mar 1881. (Founded Shores Mill and later sold it to James Shores. Thought to be interred here in unmarked grave, perhaps in this large open area north of his grandson James his wife Bettie Phillips.)
PHILLIPS, Mary Massey, 1799 - 12 Mar 1870. (wife of J. Alfred Phillips; Thought to be interred here in unmarked grave, perhaps in this large open area north of her grandson James his wife Bettie Phillips.)
PHILLIPS, James Jordan, 1832 - 20 Nov 1891. (son of James Alfred "Alfred" Phillips & Mary (Massey) Phillips.) {Phillips unmarked area of Cemetery; Recently the sons of the confederate Vets added a military marker to commemorate his military service. 0633 )
PHILLIPS, Sarah Shores, 1835 - 4 Sep 1889. (thought to be the daughter of James & Elizabeth Shores.) {Phillips unmarked area of Cemetery}
Others unaccounted for in this family are sons of James Alfred "Alfred" Phillips. Found in the 1860 census were: John W. Phillips b. 1830, Alfred R. Phillips b. 1838, Nathaniel Phillips, b. 1841. All three of these men were fighting age and John W. & Nathaniel Phillips have records of showing service in the Confederate States Army. John W. Phillips married Lucy Ashworth and his descendent show up in Lawrence County Tn. He may have transferred to that county just west of Giles but Lucy Ashworth his wife seems to be a Giles County lady.

Issue of Thursday November 26, 1891
Mr. J. J. (James Jordan) Phillips died at his home near town on the Lamb's Ferry Pike last
Friday. His remains were interred at the shores Graveyard Saturday.
(Note, from Sue Davis the compiler: Wish they had put more in the paper. Lambs Ferry RD is Hwy 11 or Minor
Hill road. So he must be buried in the old Shores cemetery on the hill in an unmarked grave. Bet his father James Alfred Phillips was also.)

Issue of Thursday, Sept 5, 1889:
Mrs. Sarah Ann Phillips, wife of J. J. Phillips died on East Hill, in this city, yesterday (Wednesday) morning at 6:20 o'clock.
