MORRIS, Lester, 
Died 1853, Aged 96 Years, (a 
Revolutionary War Soldier who was taken prisoner and held 6 months on board a prison ship 
by the British. During the Revolutionary War he served 6 years and 6 months. 
Unfortunately during the Civil War, 1861-1865, Federal Soldiers used his 
tombstone as a fireplace backdrop. A tombstone that is 
subject to heat crumbles or eventually crumbles into dust. At the time of his death 
he was living with his daughter Mrs. Thomas A (Elizabeth) Westmoreland at 
Prospect.

Lester Morris DAR patriot  #A101269.  He served 
from Virginia as a Private under Capt. Benjamin Taliaferro and Colonels Parker 
and Hopkins.  He fought in the Battle of Savannah (Sept.16-Oct. 1779) where he 
sustained a gunshot wound.  After the surrender in the siege of Charleston he 
was taken prisoner and held on the ships "King George" and "Fidelity" until Aug. 
2, 1781 when he was exchanged and discharged at Williamsburg, VA.
