Funeral services for John William (Billy) Scales, 43, native Giles Countian,
were held at one o�clock Saturday at East Hill Church of Christ, conducted by
Gilbert E. Shaffer, minister of the church, and Jim Bill McInteer of Nashville.
Burial took place in Maplewood Cemetery. Mr. Scales died Tuesday night, November
21, at Mid-State Baptist Hospital in Nashville after an extended illness. Born
May 29, 1918, he was the son of Robert E. Scales and Mary Lou Gordon Scales, now
residing in Nashville. In addition to the parents, Mr. Scales is survived by his
wife, Mrs. Sammye Pierce Scales; one daughter, Mrs. Frances White, Lynnville;
one son, B. D. Scales, Peoria, Ill.; two grandchildren; two brothers, Thomas W.
Scales, III, Nashville, and Robert E. Scales, Jr., Fort Wayne, Ind.; and one
sister, Mrs. Nancy Scales Wilson, Tokyo, Japan. Bennett-May Funeral Home in
charge of arrangements.
