CARPENTER, Walcie Rowena Barlar OBITUARY: The 
Giles Free Press, 30 Jun 1982
Mrs. Walcie Rowena Carpenter, 90, Route 1, Lynnville, died on Monday, June 21, 
1982, at Maury County Hospital.
A native of Giles County, she was the daughter of the late John Maultsby and 
Zana Lou Coker Barlar and the wife of the late Robert S. Carpenter. She was a 
retired school teacher.
Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Wednesday, June 23, at Carr and Erwin 
Chapel, with burial in Lynnwood Cemetery, Artie Collins and Mack Wheeler 
officiating.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Anne C. Hunt, Pleasant View, Tennessee, 
and Mrs. Mary C. Hunt, Lynnville; two brothers, A. E. Barlar and E. C. Barlar, 
Nashville; three sisters, Mrs. Roberta Waldrop, Clinton, Tennessee, Mrs. Alene 
Gregg and Mrs. Doris Elias, Lynnville; 10 grandchildren and three 
great-grandchildren.

Walcie attesting to her love of genealogy. She was 87+ years at the time and she

Dear Sir: 
Recently I have learned more about our relations in Austin, Texas. I have worked 
on family  records for many years. I like the work. 
My father's oldest sister, Mary Barlar, married Will Ayers, Tenn. they moved to 
Texas abt. 1873-1880. they had several children. More were born later. 
My father (John M.) & Uncle James Monroe Barlar visited them in 1891, stayed a 
few months. 
Now I have a niece living in Austin, Tex. Secretary for University Ave. Church 
of Christ 9 years come Mar. Some of your people are members there. 
I would like very much for you to send me all of the information you can about 
your relatives 
I shall be glad to send you much that I have, from 1777, 1782, 1785. Phillips, 
Collier Barlow (Barlar) [spring changey??] Many of our ancestors were born in 
Nor. Carolina and settled 
in Giles Co. Tenn., later , on Will Ayers left a brother in Tenn. Alonzo (Lon) 
Tom Ayers, Nashville Tn. sister Alice Prince. 
Please excuse writing and errors. I am a widow 87 yeas. old. A shut-in with a 
broken hip. I am nearly blind. I cannot read much and writing is difficult. 
I hope to hear from you soon if you can spare the time. Please tell me to whom I 
should send my record to.
