This cemetery located & fronting on High Street in Petersburg, Tennessee is between the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the Church of Christ was in existence before either of those buildings were constructed and likely was founded by the Masons. The name Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery tacked on as it name may not be totally appropriate.

R. C. Rives and Andy Cummins reportedly had the first saddle shop in Petersburg.

Henry H. Rives was known to be a business partner of George W. Blakemore. Together, they bought a piece of property near the square in 1838. Blakemore was one of the Commissioners of Petersburg appointed to establish the boundaries of the town after it was incorporated in 1837.

The Lincoln County property records  show Deed Books R-1, Page 502 and S-1, Page 262 shows that in 1849 Thomas K. Warren owned all of the property between the square and the current location of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. His property extended from High Street far to the east of Russell Street. He sold most of that property to Barnett Metcalf in December 1849, but retained a small plot [46 ft. by 60 ft.] where the cemetery is now located. In December, 1850, Thomas Warren donated the small plot to the three organizations that had constructed a house of worship on the property he sold a year earlier. The house of worship was apparently located between the cemetery and the town square. Many of the graves appear to be on the donated plot, but some appear to be on the plot Warren sold to Metcalf. It seems likely that the people buried in the cemetery were members of the respective churches and the Masons.
