Funeral services for Elwood Martin Nance, 74, retired saw
mill operator and carpenter, were held at 2 o'clock on Wednesday afternoon,
February 24, at Cool Springs Church of Christ, conducted by Charles Cheatham of
Lewisburg. Burial took place in the church cemetery. Mr. Nance died of a heart
ailment early Tuesday morning, February 23, at Gordon Hospital in Lewisburg,
after a long illness. Born July 12, 1885, in Giles County, he was the son of the
late Edward Lee Nance and Adelle Waldron Nance. He had made his home in
Lewisburg for fifteen years, and was a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Nance
is survived by his wife, the former Miss Maymie Shelton to whom he was married
on October 23, 1910; three sons, Buford Nance, Lewisburg, R. E. Nance,
Huntsville, Ala., and Elwood M. Nance, Jr., in the Armed Services, stationed in
Paris, France; three daughters, Mrs. Adelle Henson and Mrs. Ruby Burroughs,
Lewisburg, and Mrs. Christine Gowan, Pulaski; and a number of grandchildren; and
one sister, Mrs. Lena Phillips, Pulaski.
