James Edward Holt, age 88 of Pulaski, passed away Saturday February 9, 2013 at Hillside Hospital.

James Edward Holt was born January 16, 1925 in Pulaski, Tn. He was president of his Jr. and Sr. class and Student Body President. He always went to school early because there was a young lady there named Helen Maultsby. In the spring of 1942 James and Helen graduated from high school, he was 17 she was 18. On Sunday night September 13, 1942 they got married. The following year, 1943, James was 18 and drafted into the U.S. Military. He asked and received the US NAVY. He attended Aviation Mechanic School and Aerial Gunnery School and then was assigned to a PBY CATALINA sea plane squadron where he flew as the flight engineer. After Japan fell he was assigned to performing maintance duties on SB2C DIVE BOMBERS. He was discharged in 1946, he worked as a mechanic and took a civil service exam and went to work for the post office in 1947.In 1975 he was promoted to Postmaster and retired in 1980. He worked from 1980 to 1999 as a self-employed plumber and electrician but health problems forced his retirement again. James obeyed the Gospel of Christ at East Hill in July of 1953. He became very active in the work at the East Hill Congregation. In 1948 he used his GI Bill to learn to fly at Abernathy Field getting his private plane license. James said he owed all this good life to his wonderful wife who he will never forget.

Visitation will be Sunday February 10, 2013from 2 until 6 p.m. at Carr & Erwin Funeral Home. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday February 11, 2013 at East Hill Church of Christ with interment in Cool Springs Cemetery.

Survivors include his son Bill Holt of Pulaski, daughters Debbie Holt Carroll and husband Mike of Mt. Pleasant, Donna Holt Millican and husband John of Pulaski, grandchildren Billy Holt and wife Natasha of Ardmore, Tn., Beth Holt Duncan and husband Anthony of Pulaski, great grandchildren Riley and Regan Holt of Ardmore, Joseph Moss and Colin Walls of Pulaski, step great grandchildren Caleb, Allie and Julie Duncan of Pulaski, nieces Gwen Carpenter, Carolyn Hayes, Judy McNeese, and Roberta Hamlett, and nephews Johnny Gatlin and Mark Murrey.
