A Giles County man was killed and his brother critically injured in a
one-vehicle accident Saturday in southwest Giles County.
Dead on arrival at Hillside Hospital was Robert S. (Bobby) Beard, 26, of Route
2, Leoma. Injured in the 7 p.m. accident was Jeff Beard, 18, of Route 2, Leoma.
He was taken first to Hillside Hospital and later airlifted to St. Thomas
Hospital in Nashville where he is in critical condition with reported head
injuries.
The two were traveling on the Pleasant Ridge-Fall River Road when their pickup
truck went out of control, crashed into a tree and caught fire. Both brothers
reportedly thrown from the vehicle. The truck reportedly belonged to Jeff Beard.
Funeral services for Bobby Beard were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Carr and Erwin
Funeral Home with Glenn Colley officiating. Burial was in Chestnut Grove
Cemetery.
He was the son of the late Harold Beard. Survivors include his mother, Mary Jo
Cottrell Lovett; his step-father, Bobby Lovett of Shores; one sister, Donna Jo
Smith of Pulaski; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Cottrell of
Goodspring; his paternal grandmothers, Mrs. Bessie Beard of Pulaski; and one
niece.
