Unknown Souls: 3691/3714/3715/3720
Unknown soul, A bird fluttering in the wind, hovering over a lost (fieldstone marked) grave. (The stone is fallen and no longer stands. At one time it stood on its end and was buried about half way into the ground and facing east with its back to the west as Christians did. Tombstones only came into wide spread use in the south about 1820. Subsequent economic hard times often determined whether there was a gravestone with formally inscribed markers even after that (especially for rural farmers):
3812

The area inside this rock wall is very large and the graves that occupy it only fill about 1/3 of the space. That leads me to believe that at one time there was a either a church building inside this rock wall or we have several hundred unmarked graves. If there weren't unmarked graves filling up this space to some degree current residents would have gotten the word and used the remaining space as a modern cemetery. The marked stones that are here are in well aligned rows indicating a land survey laying out the graves existed at one time. Therefore I am inclined to believe the early Charity Church sat next to the graveyard inside the rock wall on the east side of the cemetery. Sources: Visited and photographed stones on 2 Mar 2011 by C. Wayne Austin.  Initial typing of listing by Faye Bradford, Jul 2011.  Added here 5 Dec 2011 by C. Wayne Austin.  This cemetery is also listed on page 4 Moore County Cemetery Records book by Tim & Helen Marsh, about 1976. However we found some new listings and some we did not find because  a few more stones were decayed and lost and others dug up by this researcher. As of now 5 Dec 2011 there are 78 more listings here than on findagrave.com. The number of tombstones representing grave listings found by this researcher in this cemetery was 168 compared to the current number on findagrave.com of 90. That is because I tend to look for all of the stones and not just my family or the easy to photograph stones.
