He married Martha Abernathy on 17 Dec 1814 in Brunswick County, Virginia. He was the son of Gardner and Martha Lucy Scoggin.

The Academist (Lawrence County, TN), 1 April 1846:

Died - At his residence, in this county on the 20th inst. of Pulmonary Consumption, Mr. Benjamin M. Scoggin, in the 57th year of his age. (Pulaski Whig Courier)
