Robert was a son of American Revolution Patriot
David Flenniken and his wife, Martha. Robert was one of ten sons and one daughter of David and Martha born in Mecklenburg, North Carolina. Robert fought with his four brothers in the War of 1812. Moving to Tennessee before 1820, Robert married Mary "Polly" Reasonover. Eight daughters were born to Robert and Polly - Martha, Frances, Mary Jane, Cynthia Ann, Louisa D., Amanda and her twin Parthenia Caroline and Nancy Emily. A son is also seen in 1840 census but no name is known. Mary died in 1844 and as buried in Marsh Cemetery in Marshall County, TN according to family she died unexpected while visiting one of her married daughters. Robert died November 8, 1875. (Listed as: Mrs. Robert Flanikin born 1800 died 30 Apr 1844. Listed in the Marsh-Globe Cemetery on Globe Road in Marshall County Tennessee.[WA 20 Dec 2008])
