The lone memorial of the Foster Cemetery #1

From Hwy. 50 (Williamsport Pike) go about 3/4 mile west of Arkland Church of Christ and turn south on Poplar Creek Road. Go about 1 & 1/2 miles to the Lewis Grimmett place (1988) on left. The lone tombstone is very visible on east side of the road. It is being maintained as a part of the yard of the nearby home. Locator Maps   Cemetery area views.

FOSTER CEMETERY #1

FOSTER, John E., (6 Nov 1824 - 28 Jul 1907.) "John E. Foster married Elizabeth White, 8 Jul 1851." (Son of Joseph & Mary Anderson Foster.)

FOSTER CEMETERY, #2 (250 yards due east of Foster Cemetery #1 to a point and 100 yards south of that point is this Cem.)

CURRY, Joseph, 19 Jul 1860 - 10 May 1867. "Son of C.B. & M.A. Curry." (This is the only standing tombstone)
CURRY, Ella K., 22 Apr - 9 Dec 1867. "Daughter of C.B. & M.A. Curry." (This is the only standing tombstone)
FOSTER, Benjamin C., "born in Abberville District, S.C. on 30 Dec 1819, came to Tenn. 21 Nov 1830, married Fannie G. Roberson on 1 Jun 1846 and d. 28 Jul 1898.' (Son of Joseph & Mary Anderson Foster.)
FOSTER, Fanny G., 5 Nov 1830 - 19 Jul 1873. "Professed Christ and united with M. E. Church, 1842;
wife of B. C. Foster. (Daughter of Robert & Mary Anderson, both of Ireland.)
FOSTER, Elizabeth White, 12 Jul 1834 - 18 Jan 1863. (Daughter of William & Elizabeth Vaughn White; wife of J. W. Foster; tombstone fallen.)
FOSTER, Tom J., 1849 - 1903. (stone missed or not found in 2009)
FOSTER, Ernest B., 1889 - 1890. (stone missed or not found in 2009)
FOSTER, Mary E., 1892 - 1893. (stone missed or not found in 2009)
FOSTER, Daniel, "died 8 Dec 1902, of Cross Bridges." (Columbia Daily Herald, 8 Dec 1902.) (no tombstone here, do not know for sure he lies under the soil of this cemetery; stone not found in 2009).

This cemetery as you can see from the photos has lost memorials. The evergreen vines are so dense that one sinks up into them about 8 inches with each step. This allows ample room for the stones to fall and be hard to locate.

Transcribed originally for both cemeteries mostly from Maury County Tennessee Cemeteries, visited 1 Mar 1988 by the late Fred Lee Hawkins, Jr., published on page 670. Information also listed in the book, They Passed This Way about 1967, page A-158.  Foster Cemetery #1 visited and photographed 18 Nov 2008. 1st published here 7 Dec 2008. There were no discrepancies with past researchers noted. Foster Cemetery #2 was visited and photographed 01 Jan 2009.
