DERRYBERRY, William A., 12 Dec 1842 - 15 Jan 1925. C.S.A. "Private, 1st Tennessee Regiment Infantry."

WILLIAM ALEXANDER DERRYBERRY, was born 11 Dec 1842, in the Lasea community of Maury County, son of Joseph H. & Avarilla Stanfield Derryberry. For about three years, William A. served in Gen. Forrest's Cavalry. His obituary, (see Maury Democrat, 22 Jan 1925), says that in the Battle of Nashville he was wounded and was not killed because he lay still as though dead. His friend, David Jackson, was killed near by as he lay wounded. After the close of the Civil War, Mr. Derryberry married Miss Eugenia Frances Hardison on 24 Dec 1865 and they became the parents of a family of eight children, 3 sons and 5 daughters. He was a farmer in the Lasea area served as Deputy U.S. Marshall and was master of the local postoffice for many years.: MCTC). Buried DERRYBERRY-HARDISON CEMETERY. WILLIAM A.
