COOPER CEMETERY,  CRANFORD HOLLOW RD, MAURY COUNTY TENNESSEE

The J. H. Cooper memorial, broken. I stood it up long enough to photograph. 

COOPER, J. H., 12 Feb 1824 - 24 Oct 1896.
John Hall Cooper never married. He was Veteran of Mexican War, serving as Private in Capt. A.G. (Albert Gallatin Cooper's Co. C, 1st Tennessee Mounted Infantry May 28, 1846 - May 29 1847. He enlisted in Civil War, serving in Col. A.G. Cooper's Co., 9th Tennessee Cavalry.
He was educated in Franklin, Tenn, and also studied under his father. He taught school in Maury Co., Tn, and had the first school at Newburg in Lewis Co., Tn. He left all he had in a will to his sister Mary A, and asked that the "graveyard in my garden be cleaned up and fenced." (Nuncupative Will, 2 Nov 1896, recorded 16 Jan 1897 in Book G. pg. 493, Maury Co. Tn., witnessed by Sam Redding, James A Smiser, W.M. Allen and Burton Phillips.)
