The Matthew D. Cooper memorial fallen. This stone would stand again easily if it was up righted and the base leveled.

COOPER, Matthew D., born Williamson Co., Tenn., Feb 18, 1826,died Maury Co., Mar 7, 1910. A Mexican War soldier of 1848 and a Confederate (States) War soldier, 1861.
Mexican War: Enlisted as a private in May 1846 in Capt A.G. Cooper's Co. of the 9th Tennessee Calvalry. Sworn in on the northwest side of Seventh Street in Columbia just below the F & M Bank. Civil War: Enlisted in 1861 in Col. A.G. Cooper's Co. of the 9th Tennessee Calvalry. Named for his father's youngest brother, who was a wealthy cotton commission man in Columbia, Tenn, and New Orleans, La. Matthew D. Cooper lived with his father and farmed for him except for the periods of time that he was a soldier in two wars.
