CHAFFIN (Coleman) CEMETERY, SOUTHPORT TN, MAURY COUNTY TENNESSEE

Directions: From Southport, go west toward Scott's Mill for 1 and 1/2 miles. Enter the farm lane on right and go 1/2 mile to the farm house at end of the lane. The graveyard is in grove nearby, 1988 instructions & Locator Map

CHAFFIN, Coleman, 1 Mar 1783 - 10 Oct 1844. 61-07-09, (believed to be the father of Caledonia Chaffin), son of Thomas & Elizabeth (____) Chaffin.
CHAFFIN, Susanna (Weatherford), 5 Nov 1788 - 8 Jul 1844. 55-08-03. (believed to be the mother of Caledonia Chaffin)

Coleman had at least two other brothers known as Rowland & Moses. Both of these gentleman were early inhabitants and founders of Columbia Tennessee. Moses Chaffin was a Flat Boat owner and operator who died in a storm on the Mississippi River while traveling to New Orleans Louisiana.   

Commentary in 1988 by Fred Hawkins:
These were once large box tombs but the tops are now flat on the ground and almost hidden in the dirt. A couple of large trees mark the spot of these graves. In fact, one of them has enclosed a good part of one of the slabs.
