Local resident Mr. Herman Church, almost 80 years old at the time, told
Mr. Fred Hawkins in 1987 that the
following were formerly buried here in this cemetery. He said the remains were moved
about 1940 to the Santa Fe Cemetery. The following two listings match those whose
remains were moved into the Santa Fe Cemetery a mile or so south of here:
SOWELL, James H., 7 Aug 1845 - 3 Apr 1898. (Son of Jethro & Sara
Crawford Morrow Sowell; Maury Light Art., C.S.A.; See Santa Fe Cemetery)
SOWELL, Laura J., 10 Oct 1844 - 27 Nov 1889. "Wife of I. H. Sowell.'
(nee Miller; See Santa Fe Cemetery)
This little very old cemetery was found abandoned under tall trees on the side of a hill. The stones are in danger from falling tree limbs.
