Hazel Brown Sparkman, a longtime resident of Carters Creek Pike, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, in Johnson City, where she had resided for two years. Born in Williamson County to the late Dr. Lexie Gene Brown and Nola Irene Fristoe Brown, she operated Sparkman�s Grocery with her husband, Seth Hardison Sparkman Sr., until his death in 1976. Mrs. Sparkman attended George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville and taught private piano and guitar lessons for many years. She attended Beech Grove Church of Christ and was a former member of the Maury County Community Band, the James K. Polk Memorial Society and the APTA. Survivors include three daughters, Jennifer (Bill) Usher of Johnson City, Valerie (Billy) Merkel of Columbia and Ruth (Jeff) Zeber of Hagerstown, Md.; two sons, Seth "Skip" (Donna) Sparkman of Castilian Springs and Lexie (Betsy) Sparkman of Columbia; a sister, Jean Brown Waggener of Franklin; 12 grandchildren, Scott Usher, Kara (Jim) Pollock, Janet (Scott) Dube, Seth H. (Christy) Sparkman III, Spencer Sparkman, Sean Sparkman, Sarah Sparkman, Kelly Merkel, Jillian Zeber, Kate Zeber, Jeramie (Robyn) Graham and Mary Jo Graham; and six great-grandchildren.... -- The Review Appeal (Franklin, Tenn.) 18 Dec 2002
