This cemetery was at one time fenced and protected, but large trees
and limbs have destroyed much of the fence. It has now been abandoned
and just since these photos were made has grown up in Brush making a
visit now an encounter with thorns, briars and other vicious & sticky thickets.
Another generation has passed as far as ownership is concerned and
unlike the old man the current inheritors care nothing for the cemetery
or at least have shown no interest in it thus far. [2010 CWA] Cemetery
Plundered by 27 Apr 2011 Tornadoes, & again in 2012 including large
trees falling across the stones. Beautiful old Dogwood trees were
smashed and broken and now they are gone. The cemetery was not
rescued, but left to grow up in even thicker brush. Someone
between 2015-2016 including some work done by me & others making a
feeble attempt to clear some of the brush from the stones. About 2016 (a
group of which I know not who) cleared the cemetery and installed a
wooden sign. Nice Job. The cemetery was then as good as it was
when these photos were made in 2005. Way to go John Q. Public. A clear
right of way has been set for the public. It is mostly graveled. If you
visit this cemetery be sure to leave the surrounding crops alone and do
not disturb the farmer's assets. The road doubles as a farming access
along with the cemetery access. [CWA 7 Aug 2017]
Across the field in a woodland on the east side of Wal-Mart about 100
yards is the Fletcher Cemetery. It is African American, but is also
abandoned. See findagrave.com for information.
