HARRIS FAMILY HISTORY


William Harris and his wife Richetta Harris were born in the state of Virginia circa 1828. The date William and Richetta
moved to Madison County is not known. Richetta died between 1870 and 1874. William died Mar 13, 1874.
William and Richetta owned and farmed 320 acres of land on what is now Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. Their property
was one of the properties described in Township 4 - Range 2 West - Section 26. Their children at the time of their
deaths were Delta, Carrie, Shelly, Lavina, Silas, William II, and Richetta. More information about William and Richetta
can be found in the Huntsville Library Heritage Room.

William Harris II farmed his inherited share of the land on the Redstone Arsenal until the late 1920's. William II
bought and farmed several hundred acres of land in Triana, Alabama in the late 1890's and the early 1900's.

On this spot stood the home of William II and his wife Lou. The children of this union were Oregon, William III, John,
Carrie, Bessie, and Ella. Lou died in July of 1918. William II died in, 1933 at the age of 67.

Oregan and his wife, Emma farmed the land of William II and additional acres that they purchased in Triana until their
deaths, The children of this union were Shelly, John, Bertha, and Dorothy. Oregon died January 31, 1964. Emma died
December 11, 1965. Shelly died February 29, 1968. John died March 09, 1977.

This marker is erected in memory of our Great Grandfather, Great Grandmother, Grandfather, Grandmother, and our
beloved Father and Mother, They were all very hard working and successful people.  2003
