As you can see this is a cemetery for at one time very prominent people which lived during the old southern times of slavery. Most of the interred here populated this graveyard during and before Civil War.  Their wealth was probably derived from the very fertile red clay soils in that area near the Tennessee River in the valley which grows cotton and grains rapidly, and with high yields. This is only about a mile from one of the first governors of Alabama - Governor Bibb's home on Mooresville Road.
